Who am I buying from?We are a small family run nursery located in the Annapolis Valley producing sustainably grown, climate hardy, top quality trees and shrubs. What is an 'Ellepot'?Soiless media wrapped in a fully biodegradable and plantable paper membrane. The major advantages of plants grown this way are: -Absolutely no root bound plants or root circling as with plants grown in pots -No root disturbance or transplant shock when planted -Easy to plant -If planted in the growning season, the plant will go into active growth immediately -Enviromentally friendly and fully sustainable production -No plastic pot to deal with -The only plastic is used in production, the airpruning tray can be used hundreds of times and never leaves the nursery. What am I buying? (Trees)We sell trees in either 12 litre/3gallon air pruning pots or Ellepots. Trees range in size from 90-120cm/3-4feet depending on the variety. Trees in air pruning pots (12litre/3gallon) can not be dispatched by post. Collection can be arranged from our nursery and depending on your location delivery can at times be arranged. What size will the trees be when I receive them?Trees range in size depending on the variety. Most will be approximately 3-4 feet (1metre) tall. Some will have side branching some won't. If you would like to know the specific size of a tree species or tree variety please let us know using the 'General Enquiry Form' or call us on 902-526-4371

Why do you recommend planting smaller trees?Smaller trees are be much easier to plant and establish better than larger ones. You will find that in a couple of seasons small trees will be much larger, have better anchorage and produce fruit earlier than so called 'advanced trees' grown in huge plastic pots. When are trees available?Our trees are grafted in Spring and will be dispached as soon as they are large enough. Autumn planting ensures your plants are well settled and ready to jump into growth the following Spring. Please see the attached video clip about trees planted in Ellepots. An update is made every July 1st to our available stock at which time pre orders for the fall planting period are open. This will always be when the fullest range of trees are available. On January 1st of each year we update our site to reflect stock available for Spring planting. This update will always include rootstock for growing your own trees and a large range of landscape trees. Can I collect my trees?Yes, absolutely. We are located in the Annapolis Valley at Bridgetown and you are welcome to collect your order by appointment once it's ready. Please contact us via the 'General Enquiry Form' or call 902-526-4731 to organise a time to collect.

What is the cost involved in cancelling an order?Tree orders: Cancelled orders will be subject to a fee of $50 (plus tax) or 10% (plus tax), which ever is greater. Eg: The cancellation fee on an order of $700 will incur a $70 fee (plus tax) Rootstock orders: Can be amended and cancelled prior to the end of March. Orders cancelled on or after 1st April are non refundable.

Which provinces do you sell trees to?We focus on supplying Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland(must be bareroot supply only so at present this is rootstock all other shipments would require inspection and a movement certificate which would be at an added cost), and Prince Edward Island. Other areas (with the exception of B.C) can receive supply information on request. Feel free to contact us if you are outside Atlantic Canada. When will I receive my order?We dispatch trees from early September until the end of October or for Spring orders April to early May. We dispatch apple rootstocks from late March to mid April each year. Grafting and Growing Supplies are dispatched year round. We will contact you as soon as plants are ready to organise a convenient time to receive or collect your order. We will let you know the day its sent with a tracking number. Depending on your location most orders will take 4-5 days. If you haven't received your order within 7 days please contact us using the'General Enquiry' form or by phone 902-526-4371.

Why can't you post trees in 12 L airpruning pots?Weight is the primary consideration and cost would be prohibative. However, we will do our utmost to get a tree to you by some arrangement should you want a tree that is potted. What am I buying? (Rootstocks)We sell bare rooted, fully dormant rootstocks. We ship them packed well with moist recycled newspaper to be sure the roots won't dry out. Recyled plactic is used to wrap small orders and cardboard boxes are used for larger orders. Rootstocks have their tops removed to approximately 450mm in length (including the root section) for ease of harvest. What is the postage cost if I want to order trees, rootstocks and grafting supplies?"Orders including Trees and Growing and Grafting Supplies can be combined, the postage cost will be based on the trees. Orders including Roostocks and Growing and Grafting Supplies can be combined, the postage cost will be based on the number of rootstocks. However if you wish to place an order for Trees and Roostocks you will need to place two seperate orders as they are dispatched at different times. The postage cost is applied accordingly. When can I place an order request for Apple Rootstocks?Ordering opens in January of each year and runs through to the end of dispatch (mid March to mid April) Dispatch period may vary from year to year based on the season. When do I pay for my order?Payment is required at check out to process pre season orders.

What is the difference between 'cider' and 'hard cider' ?The word 'cider' has quite different meanings in the United Kingdom and North America. In North America fresh apple juice is known as 'cider' (as in Nova Scotia), whereas in England 'cider' means fermented apple juice - which is known as 'hard cider' in the North America. Most English 'cider' apples can't be eaten fresh, and their juice is not palatable when freshly pressed - they are grown only for the production of hard cider

Do I need a pollination for my tree or berry?In general Strawberrries, Raspberries, Apricots, Nectarines, Sour Cherries and Peaches are self fertile meaning you do NOT require another variety for pollination. However, most Plums, Pears, Apples, and Sweet Cherries will require another variety for pollination. There are some exceptions that are 'self fertile'. Recommended pollination partners are listed in the information section of each fruit variety. How do I place and order if I have tax free status?If you're eligible for tax free purchases such as holding a Native Status Card you can not place you're order though the normal online check out system. Please contact us directly by phone or email and we will issue you an invoice without tax for payment accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation.
