Description:
Discovered in New Zealand as a chance seedling in 1972, this apple is named for the peninsula on which it was found. Coramandel's flesh is very firm and crisp, a moderately fine-grained yellow-green. Tart very slightly edges out sweet in this well-balanced variety, whose delicate flavors would probably be overwhelmed otherwise. There are sour notes, along with a little ginger and hints of berries.
Uses:
Fresh and cooking
Maturity:
Late season
Pollination:
Gala, Jonathan, Red Delicous, Golden Delicious
White flowering crabapples are also good pollinisers for this variety.
